Less than 24 hours had passed since Alex Palou won the 109th running of the Indy 500, and Motorsport.com conducted an exclusive interview with him, where he described his win as “spectacular.” Palou, the newly-crowned Indy 500 champion, has been nonstop, sleeping for only four hours and rushing back to IMS for more celebrations, with little time to eat. Despite his three championships in the last four years, Palou admits that the Indy 500 win surpasses all of his previous victories in the IndyCar series. The impact of his Indianapolis 500 victory has been immense, highlighted by the attention received, including a letter from the King and Queen of Spain. Palou confesses that he still hasn’t fully processed his achievement, waking up in the middle of the night excited about the win. His critical move during the race, passing Marcus Ericsson with 14 laps to go, proved to be decisive in securing his historic victory and avoiding a potential tough battle for the lead. Palou acknowledges that he and Ericsson were not necessarily the fastest in the latter part of the race and is grateful that everything played out well in the end.
